Saturday morning tracks

Proč si vážit svobody slova? (CZE)

MATYÁŠ

In the 21st century in the Western world, we take freedom of expression, one of the basic human rights, as a matter of course. Are you interested in what preceded today’s luxury, what self-censorship is or why it is necessary to actively fight for freedom of expression not only in countries that suppress it but also here? In that case, don’t hesitate to participate! As a part of this workshop, a role-play of the European Court of Human Rights on the protection of freedom of expression will take place. I look forward to a fruitful discussion.

There is no I in… marshmallow? (ENG)

LOMME

In this workshop, we will focus on group dynamics. We will tackle topics like teambuilding, and how to grow cohesion within a group and we will get a better understanding of what makes a group and how it functions. And there will also be a thing with a marshmallow…

Visual thinking - or what the eye sees and the brain assimilates (ENG)

Baśia

Draw anyone can! Are you looking for a way to better assimilate knowledge? Need a tool to make your audience understand you better? Do you want to learn how to organize the information you collect? Visual thinking is a brilliant method that will improve your work and allow you to work more effectively with other people. Think you can’t draw? Find out that this is not the case at all! Drawing is a skill like any other. That is, one that you can learn. All it takes is a few quick lines to stand out and get noticed!

Co chceš, to dokážeš! (CZE)

MGR. KAMILA TKÁČOVÁ

I try to pass on this idea to my students. I want the graduates of the Silesian Gymnasium in Opava to be prepared for the real world, to be self-confident and responsible individuals. If you are not afraid to find out more information about yourself and want to try working in the discomfort zone, I will be looking forward to seeing you in my interactive workshop full of surprises and personal development!

Jak vybrat to nejlepší pro tělo i duši? (CZE)

STOP ASSOCIATION

Under the mysterious title, there are two workshops, which are accompanied by the theme of food – both mental and real, with which we fill our stomachs every day. Sometimes both can be quite a bummer and we don’t feel quite right. We’ll look at it playfully not only from the point of view of mutual tolerance, mindfulness, and empathy but also from a very pragmatic purpose, namely how to use the food we bring home from the store as best and long as possible so that it doesn’t end up unused in the bin.

Saturday afternoon tracks

Pojďte, budeme si hrát! (CZE)

JANA

Do you want to play but at the same time consciously work on yourself and the development of your intercultural self? Come and try out/experience some intercultural activities and games and realize why we do them. If you like to participate in training camps, and workshops in schools, you will benefit from personal experience that you can then transfer to your training/leading activities.

Jak lépe porozumět odlišným kulturám? (CZE)

MAKY

Do you want to learn more about cultures, how they differ, or on the contrary, how they are alike? And how do understand them better? If so, then this course is exactly for you! Among other things, we will look at some ways of coping with culture shock. You’ll have the opportunity to try out different methods in practice and delve into the world of cultures. I will share with you my fresh experience from international training in Turkey and Belgium which I could be a part of thanks to AFS.

YOU HAVE TO ATTEND THIS WORKSHOP!!!!!!!! (ENG)

LOMME

Okay, calm down, no need to shout. You can just invite me like a normal person… Haven’t you heard about non-violent communication? Well, maybe you could join a workshop to work on that…

Small steps, big difference (ENG)

PRIYA

This session focuses on the core values of AFS in an extended format. There will be an insight on global citizenship, community service, communication styles, intercultural understanding, taking up opportunities, and leadership roles. And with all this, we have the Bollywood dance energizers!

Don’t try to kill the fear – use the fear! (ENG)

EVA

Who does know the problem: you have to present something and stage fright is coming, even though you’re more than well prepared or it’s just something short like saying your own name. In this workshop you will get to know some methods on how to deal with stage fright and how you can present more confident. Also we’ll look on body language, all in a safe space of course.

Učení a komunikace (CZE)

PETR

Above all, learning should be meaningful and human. Respectful student/teacher communication. We will talk about the forms of active participation of pupils in school that we do in our school (e.g. school parliament, children’s autonomy, course Wednesdays, etc.).

Sunday workshops

Jak na relaxační techniky (CZE)

ANETA

Come to get inspired and try out the basic techniques of relaxation. We will get connected with our bodies and breath, which we can control, even though we often don’t realize it. Let’s minimize our stress together and strengthen our mental health!

10 stereotypů o Africe (CZE)

ALENA

Africa is a continent. A giant continent. None of us even think of comparing Ukraine to Switzerland. So why do we lump all African states together and write them all the same fate? Africa has (as well as Europe) over 50 states and equally diverse cultures. I hitchhiked this continent in 2018. From the very south, through east and west to Europe. In total, I spent about 4 years in Africa, visited 30 countries and apart from building a library here I think that Africa deserves to be added to our travel map. The workshop will mainly be about breaking down outdated prejudices about Africa, interspersed with photos and experiences of life and footprint on this continent. Several activities are waiting for you, where you can test your stereotypes and knowledge!

Krizová komunikace v online prostředí (CZE)

HANKA

Did you know that the presence of corporations on the internet brings with it its dark side? Would you like to learn the basics of crisis communication online? Then this course is exactly for you! We’re going to go through the principles of effective online communication together, we’ll look at the best (and the worst) examples in practice, and finally, we’re going to practice how to handle these situations. Look forward to three hours full of practical tips and advice, demonstrations, and  #noway examples.

The journey starts with self (ENG)

PRIYA

This workshop focuses on the learnings required to create self-awareness and become an individual who can make a difference in society. It mainly consists of meditation, self-reflection activities, understanding of surroundings, and the importance of becoming self-aware.

Right, left, watch out!!! (ENG)

BASIA

Do you know how important the ability to give instructions is? One wrong message and cold water can be on your head! Because, after all, few things give you such a dose of emotions as a bucket of cold water, right? Are you able to overcome stress and trust your friends that much? This workshop is about group work, giving instructions, good communication, careful execution of instructions under stress, eventually, the thrill and small cold water bath…

Should I buy vegan, regional or organic food to save the planet? (ENG)

EVA

Species are dying out all over the planet in an enormous fast speed and biodiversity is decreasing. A great driver is land use and following from this agriculture. In this workshop you’ll understand the agriculture system and our environment better and you’ll learn how to make sustainable food choices.

Alena

In 2019 I came back to Czechia after ten years of traveling around the world. I started working in AFS as an ODC (Organization Development coordinator). So far, I’ve been able to get to know tons of amazing volunteers with lots of energy and brilliant ideas, which brings me so much energy. The place I love the most is Africa, where I spent four years volunteering, studying, and traveling. I’ve traveled across more than 80 countries (mainly by hitch-hiking), and I am happy to share some tips on how to travel on a shoestring or a bit of chocolate too.

Aneta

I started at AFS in 2020 as a program coordinator. I am a trained psychologist, I studied both in Brno and in Lincoln, England. In my spare time I work on a crisis line. I relax by gardening among other things, currently moving from building raised planters to studying lawn fertilizers. I’m happy to talk about other methods of relaxation as well!

Baśia

I have always been the type of traveler. You could say that my whole life depends on it. I try to combine education and work with traveling, which allows me to meet people and learn about new cultures. Because of my curiosity about the world, I went on exchange to the US in 2019, and upon my return I became an AFS volunteer. I act as a coordinator, conduct and create workshops. I am a member of EPOT, and now I plan to be a volunteer in another country. Aside from a sip of good coffee, what gives me the most energy is people who want to act, are willing to change things, improve and take action. Energy, however, does not prevent me from getting 12 hours of sleep if I can only let myself get it.

Eva

I’m Eva, an Austrian actress, agroecologist and trainer. I love nature and food and therefore I studied agroecology and I also love to share my knowledge. That’s why I give trainings. Another great passion of mine is acting. I love being on stage and play therefore I also studied acting. And if I have some free time you can probably find me mountain climbing. I’m connected to AFS since I went on an exchange year to Panama.

Hanka

My journey began 7 years ago by accidentally clicking on a website and through various roles in DOS Ústecko, in KOS, and, in the end, directly in the office where I am now. Being in my bubble means a lot of coffee, excellent food, endless talks about books, bad singing, and dancing off the beat for everyone.

1

Jana

Hi, my name is Jana and I have been in AFS since January 2020. I work as a Coordinator of Education and Cooperation with Schools; I am also an examiner at Cambridge English exams as well as an English teacher. I like cooking and eating, singing, skiing, and walking, all of that preferably together with my family.

5

Mgr. Kamila Tkáčová

My goal is to motivate students to gain knowledge and skills. I take my job seriously, but it’s also my hobby. I try to make education fun. I see the linking of theory and practice through projects as an extraordinary opportunity for students, who can then better orientate themselves in the world and get into the areas they want to study later. Successful cooperation has always fascinated me, and that is why I lead students to it in several school projects, of which I am the guarantor. I also offer a helping hand in the position of school prevention methodologist.

lomme

Lomme

Hi, I’m Lomme and I’m from Belgium. A few years ago I decided to go for an exchange to Malaysia and I’ve been an active volunteer at AFS since then. I spend most of my time as a volunteer creating and preparing workshops for students and other volunteers. Except for my AFS activities, I spend a lot of time at other non-profit organizations like EFIL and Amnesty International.

4

Matyáš

I have been participating in AFS since the beginning of 2022 and I mainly focus on training volunteers. I am most interested in fundamental human rights, (for example freedom of expression or the right to a fair trial) which we do not learn much in the public space and take for granted. In the future, I would like to devote more attention to these rights also in the context of the Middle East and Africa. Besides this, I like yoga, reading and of course great coffee or tea.

3

Markéta

My journey in AFS began with my year exchange program in Germany. About two years ago, after my arrival, I became a volunteer. Via various roles in DOS Prague, I have got into management and at the moment I am working also in KOS. In my free time, I like to read books that concern mainly self-development. A kind of heart thing for me is traveling.

petr

Petr

I enjoy improvisation, critical thinking, and the development of human potential. I like to stimulate enthusiasm, creativity, and motivation in others. I find it most satisfying when I complete an activity that has had a positive impact. I have seen diverse parts of the world and talked to different people during my stay. Until a few years ago, I was determined to pursue a career in diplomacy. Then I experienced studying in Mexico, working in international institutions, and pursuing adult education. I worked as a teaching assistant in English classes at a university in Indonesia and taught children and youth in rural areas there. It was then that it dawned on me that I wanted to pursue education to the fullest and discover children´s strengths in the Czech Republic. I have completed the Učitel naživo training and have been working as a guide at ScioSchool for over 3 years, and this summer I moved to the newly opened ScioSchool in Kolín.

2

Priya

Namaste and Ahoj! My name is Priya. I did my exchange year in CZE in 2016/17 and have been a volunteer with AFS India since then and have taken up multiple leadership roles. I am a Trainer at AFS CZE and EPOT as well. Besides this, I’m very passionate about traveling. I can’t wait to meet you all in the training sessions and am excited for you to learn throughout the weekend. See you soon!! 🙂
