The Megavikend is an international educational event that is the largest AFS educational event. During the weekend of 13 – 15 October 2023, you will experience a packed program of great workshops and have the opportunity to meet volunteers from all over the Czech Republic and abroad.

The whole program is planned so that everyone can choose from topics on intercultural education, communication, or self-care. The workshops are designed in three-hour blocks, morning and afternoon. At least two workshops in English are guaranteed in each block, taking into account the foreign participants. In addition to the workshops, there is also an additional program.

Saturday morning workshops

The Maze of Team Communication (ENG)

LOMME

Step into the maze of leadership conversations and learn how to find your way with ease. This workshop offers you a map to unravel complex team dynamics, tools to resolve conflicts without breaking a sweat, and keys to unlock effective communication within your team.

Introduction to facilitation (ENG)

KAREL

The meaning of facilitation for me is in those moments when people talk to each other and don’t understand each other at all, even though they want to. And the facilitator, as an attentive listener, will offer that one missing word that will connect them and help them understand each other. I want to help people and teams have more impact in their work by supporting their internal processes, and facilitation offers me a way to do that.

Identities and Superpowers (ENG)

FILIP

Find out more about how every human meeting is an intercultural experience. Dive deeper into your own stereotypes and prejudices. Explore identities and privileges. Find out about the superpowers they give you when working in diverse groups. And figure out what you can do with that information.

Disclaimer: While the workshop will be interactive, it can also be an emotionally difficult experience for some.

How it started vs. how is it going (Values and Mission of AFS) (ENG)

Tijana

Lets remind ourselves how did AFS start as an organization and what were its primal values and mission, but more importantly let’s look in the present and where have those ideas lead us as community of volunteers around the world ready to lead change and create a more just and peaceful world. Are you familiar with the ways AFS is impacting the world and its individuals? Do you know which Global Goals are we supporting? Why is this all important and how is it shaping our volunteering experience? If you want to find answers to those and similar questions, this is a workshop for you but also a place where you will find your own values that make you part of this community known as AFS family.

Saturday afternoon workshops

Culture Quest (ENG)

LOMME

Delve deep into the world of cultural nuances. In this workshop, you will embark on a quest to understand hidden cultural layers, master the art of cross-cultural communication, and foster appreciation for diverse perspectives.

Art of Connection: Communication Skills (ENG)

Doruk

Is it only our choice of words, or are there other factors that influence communication? Especially in multicultural environments, have you had any experiences with differences in communication styles? In this workshop, we will discuss the factors that influence communication and the impact of cultural differences on it. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on these factors based on their past experiences and consider them as tools for future opportunities.

Sunday workshops

Environment and society - why the binarity? (ENG)

Lejka

Climate change does not affect everyone equally. How are environmental sustainability and social justice interconnected? What do we mean by the terms intersectionality and just transition? In this workshop we will explore the topics of environmentalism, sustainability and climate change from various perspectives, discuss their societal dimension, and deepen our understanding of climate justice.

Learn your Style (ENG)

doruk

In this workshop, we will focus on dynamic learning styles and learning potentials in diverse intercultural environments. Participants will be able to build strong foundation and understanding while applying different learning and education approaches.

Why individual differences are group’s greatest advantage (How to Engage and Focus a Group) (ENG)

Tijana

Are you a group leader or a group member that is struggling with all that mess inside of the group or simply wants to learn more about psychology of a group. In this workshop you will have an opportunity to learn more about group dynamics and structure, how to recognize good leadership, how to motivate different individuals to work towards the same goal and how to convert diversities and individual differences into the biggest group advantage instead of the greatest fear and enemy. This is a place where you will find more about how different types of motivation impact engagement of the group, learn how to motivate each individual, discover their potentials and help them contribute to the group.

Doruk

Doruk is an EFIL travelling trainer. This scheme allows EFIL Member Organisations to request the participation of a trainer from the EFIL European Pool of Trainers (EPOT) to take part in national training or volunteer meetings. F*éra, NESEHNUTÍ

In the F*ÉRA programme, members focus mainly on the topic of gender-sensitive approaches in education. They work with young people on a positive relationship with their own bodies and sexuality, promoting their uniqueness, and raising issues of power and the causes of violence. They seek to create space for young people themselves to advocate for their needs to be met and for social change.

karel_mgv_2023

Karel

I am a member of NaZemi, where I am mainly involved in facilitation and education. Facilitation can be quite a technical, “neutral” tool, but as in all NaZem work, we try to infuse facilitation with our values to promote trust, cooperation and democratization in collectives and offer other alternatives to how power works between people. Other than that, I’m also interested in systems thinking, pedagogical competencies and in my spare time, role-playing.

Are you not sure that this is the right thing for you? Are you afraid of not knowing anyone? Loose all your insecurities and join us! Megavikend will for sure amaze you and here is why:

1) it is one of the biggest AFS educational events from the whole Europe
2) workshops and training are run by experienced trainers
3) you will meet many interesting people, not only from the Czech republic
4) you will have a lot of fun and you will get to know the city like a local
5) and many more

This idea originated in 2007 when a group of young AFS volunteers decided to organize the first-ever session of this educational event. For all the seasons, the goal of Megavikend remains the same – connect young people from the whole of Europe and let them educate themselves, share their knowledge, experience, tips, and tricks, and thus participate in the development of our society. Every year, the event is visited by more than 120 participants from all around the globe. And you can be part of it!
