Propojenějšího, tolerantnějšího a mírumilovnějšího světa nelze dosáhnout pouhým hledáním věcí, které nás spojují, nýbrž také současným akceptováním vzájemných rozdílů, jež mají možnost nás obohatit.
Náš svět si prošel již mnoha hrůzami a tragédiemi, vyvolanými neschopností vidět za hranice vlastní kultury, barvy pleti, náboženství, osobní zájmy. Některé z těchto konfliktů otřásly zúčastněnými stranami do takové míry, že si dodnes s sebou nesou pálivé jizvy.
Jedněmi z těchto válek jsou i “Války na Balkáně”. Zúčastněné národy si stále pamatují bolest a utrpení svého lidu, a přestože mír mezi zeměmi byl nastolen a stále je v procesu obnovy, (zatímco obvinění jsou ještě pořád stíháni za své zločiny proti lidskosti), k vypořádání se se ztrátami, které tyto války lidem přinesly, vede stále dlouhá cesta.
Ačkoliv mladší generace nikdy osobně nebyly svědkem zmíněné tragédie, atmosféra panující v jejich zemích je stále poznamenána minulostí. Právě proto pro mě bylo krásné stát se svědkem upřímného okamžiku míru, dalo by se říci až “bratrské lásky”, na letošním Megavíkendu.
Účastníci z Bosny, Chorvatska a Srbska se během večerní party, kdy začala hrát slavná píseň bosenské kapely Bijelo dugme nazvaná Đurđevdan (Den sv. Jiří), rozběhli doprostřed parketu, objali se v kruhu a z plných plic si společně zazpívali. Ačkoli má píseň kořeny ve 2. světové válce a skrývá temnou historii, její moderní verze si získala velkou popularitu.
Zpívá se v ní o slovanských náboženských svátcích a zármutku z odloučení od těch, které milujeme. Ale možná je v ní mnohem víc, možná v sobě nese sílu sjednotit, přenést se přes bolestivou minulost, sílu uzdravit a zažehnout jiskru budoucího, opravdového smíření. Určitým způsobem tato skladba rezonuje s každým. Věřím, že prostřednictvím lásky, radosti, a společného sdílení daného momentu se mohou propojit a navzájem pochopit skutečně všechny kultury.

Megavikend – Building Bridges, connecting bridges

Achieving a more connected, respectful, and loving world can not be done only by finding the similarities that unite us, but by accepting and praising the differences that enrich us. Our world has seen many horrors and tragedies, deeply rooted in hatred, caused by the inability to see beyond our own borders, culture, skin color, religion, interests. These wars, fueled by hate, shook the involved to a point where a lot of wounds are still sore to this day. Some of these wars are certainly the “Wars in the Balkans”. Those nations still remember the pain and the suffering of their people, and although the peace between countries has and still is in the process of being restored, while the involved are still being prosecuted for their crimes against humanity, there is still a long way to go regarding the toll these wars took on the people. Although the younger generations never witnessed the tragedies first hand, the atmosphere in their countries is still marked by the past. That is why it was so beautiful for me to witness the moment of pure peace, one might even say “brotherly love”, at this year’s Megavikend. There were participants from Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia attending the event and on the evening of the party, in a moment when a famous song by a Bosnian band Bijelo dugme called Đurđevdan (St. George’s day) started playing, they all came running to the center of the dance floor, hugged one another in a circle and sang their hearts out. Although the song roots to a time of World War II and it has a dark history, the modern version is very popular amongst the Balkan nations. But it’s actually more than that, it has a power of uniting, of briefly forgetting the haunting past, it has the power of healing or at least causing a spark of peace. The song is about a Slavic religious holiday and the heartache of being apart from the one you love. Somehow this song resonates with everyone and within that moment of joy and sadness, they found a way to let go, even if just for a moment. That’s what giving peace a chance is all about, that’s how cultures can connect, understand each other, through instants of love and joy, through instants of living in a moment. Imagine.
